U values and fire resistance

What makes timber frame construction so unique is its outstanding potential to create a building with superior energy efficiency. The external building envelope, which usually consists of walls, floors and roofs achieve, and even exceed, building regulations and required U Values. These in combination with excellent air tightness parameters results in valuable energy efficiency. The target U values and fire resistance parameters are given to the client during the design stage. Due to timber frame buildings’ low thermal mass, the building can be heated very quickly. With high quality heat insulation in prefabricated homes, maintenance on the home is reduced.

Air tightness

Air tightness is one of the most important aspects which has to be carefully considered, both in the design and construction phases in providing for a home’s insulation. When modelling air permeability design, Nordic Homes timber framed solutions can be specified to achieve any level of performance down to 1,20 m³/h*m².

Ventilation and heating

Different heating systems are easy to install in modular housing, whether it is a single family home or a multi-storey building. Starting from electrical heating, ranging up to heat pumps combined with high performance recuperation system that modular technology can deliver.

Structure

The full structures’ static calculations provided by Nordic Homes always comply with the clients country’s building regulations. The company has experience with student accommodation project that is up to eight storeys high. Thanks to the light self-weight of the building made from timber structures, it is possible to design foundations of smaller size and weight. This allows for customers to save a significant amount of money due to shortened construction times and reduced material requirements.

Acoustics

The requirements for acoustic performance are one of the most important for improving quality of life, especially for non-domestic buildings – student accommodation, hotels, care homes, or commercial. Good sound insulation values are easily attained in timber structures. As an example, airborne sound resistance between flats up to 52 dB can be achieved. The prerequisite is careful planning and installation of the proper materials.

Interior decoration

A wide range of interior decoration is available, starting from the economical lower end of the market, to luxury and uniquely designed materials. Almost all customer requirements and wishes can be met. Timber frame modular units provide high quality for the most discerning customers.

 

Exterior decoration

Numerous exterior finishes are possible to implement the most demanding architectural design solutions.  Wood cladding, brick slip system, aluminium cladding as well as many more can be utilized. The technology allows for traditional design, while at the same time meeting modern sustainability standards and providing a rapid and cost-effective build programme.
