On March 10, 2016 in the cultural palace “Ziemeļblāzma” the winners of the annual competition “Latvian Construction Award 2015” were announced in 10 different nominations. The student accommodation project “Hope Street. Liverpool” built by Nordic Homes won the 1st place in the category “Wooden Building”. It is one of the most impressive and the highest timber framed modules buildings in Europe – 3 towers: 5, 7 and 9 storeys high.
The mission of the competitions is to promote safe, innovative, high quality and esthetical buildings that were built in Latvia and other countries where the builders or the developers are Latvian citizens. The target of the competition is to increase the prestige of the construction, design and architecture industries within the society by promoting good practice and experience on valuable and great quality projects.
95 applications were received for the competition. It is one of the most ambitious contests in Latvia, as well as the only one where certain and accurate evaluation criteria for all 10 different nominations are defined. Nominations include structural safety of buildings, architectural expressiveness, material and quality of work, accessibility solutions, user comfort, as well as ecological aspects, which is particularly important for wooden buildings.
Project “Hope Street. Liverpool” was the only project which got the award as the project was placed outside Latvia, thereby putting competition beyond national borders and promoting Latvian word on an international level.
