Nordic Homes has been chosen as a strategic partner in the Baltics for the supply of timber framed modules to Veidekke, one of Scandinavia’s largest construction and property development companies. The modules produced for the first projects are planned to be used for building residential houses, initially in the Skane county of Sweden.
A Letter of Intent on cooperation between Nordic Homes and Veidekke was concluded on April 13, 2016. The signing of a Design Agreement followed on May 12, 2016. Together, the parties plan to work to meet the demand in the Swedish market for affordable housing in the budget segment. Therefore, both parties have agreed to work in close cooperation to develop a cost efficient product.
The first negotiations between the partners started over a year ago, when Veidekke’s representatives visited Nordic Homes’ factory. Since then, several improvements in Nordic Homes’ operations and manufacturing processes has been implemented in order to achieve a level of excellence in the most important pillars of Veidekke’s operations: people, involvement and multi-local. At the moment a pilot project is being carried out, in order to ensure that the product can be produced within a specified cost frame, and with a long-term objective of further increasing production efficiency and cost reductions over time.
The initial project consists of 23 two-storey residential row houses with typical Scandinavian architecture. It combines a modern design with environment-friendly technologies, which ensures a high energy-efficiency standard. The GLA of each apartment is between 89 and 120 m2. 92 modules are required for the project and are scheduled to be produced during 8 weeks this Autumn.
The Board Member of Nordic Homes Mr. Pauls Dzintars Kalnins says: “It is a great pleasure to work with a value-driven company such as Veidekke, whose professionalism and attention to detail is so precise and highly evaluated. Although there are a lot of things to learn about the technologies and specifications distinctive to Swedish building regulations and traditions, we are open for new challenges and initiatives which gives us confidence for success”.
Veidekke Sweden representative – Head of Concept Development, Mr Johan Corke – reveals: “There were several timber framed modules producers from the Baltics who were selected for participating in the purchase tender developed by Veidekke. Quality, safety, delivery terms and conditions, as well as previous experience were the key criteria when selecting a suitable supplier. We look forward to working closely with Nordic Homes with the objective of a long-term cooperation”.
After joint evaluation of the pilot project, a supplementary development agreement is planned to be concluded. This provides Nordic Homes the opportunity of entering a new market, increase export volumes, improve the manufacturing processes and elevating them according to exacting Swedish standards.
Veidekke is one of Scandinavia’s largest construction and property development companies. The company undertakes all types of building and construction contracts, maintains roads and produces asphalt and aggregates.
